Generic thumbnail strip with overflow counter, hover/touch remove modes, responsive gridCols and a cell snippet override
Takes a generic { id, url, alt } item — no media-library coupling. Items
without a url render a text tile.
Hover (or focus) a tile for its × button — on touch devices it stays visible without hover; the dashed tile appends.
removeMode="hover" (default) reveals the × on hover/focus and keeps it visible on
coarse (touch) pointers. removeMode="always" pins it visible — the mode
touch-first flows like PhotoCapture want.
Pass gridCols (any grid-cols-* breakpoints) and the strip becomes a
responsive CSS grid — tiles stretch to fill their column. class composes onto
the root container. Together with removeMode="always" this is the shape a
touch-only capture screen needs.
12 items, max: 5 — the rest collapse into a +N tile (tooltip lists the count).
The cell snippet replaces the default image/text tile — here an initials avatar
ring. The tile stays clickable and keeps its remove affordance.
