Listening to pages
A short article in three sections
Opening
Reading a page and listening to one are different postures.Eyes are busy on a walk, at the sink, on a train.Ears are free — which is why the best audio UI is a small one.A pill that expands only when you ask it to.
The engine
The host splits the page into sentences, or paragraphs, whichever reads better. Each piece synthesizes separately, so audio arrives as chunks, not as one file. The player walks the chunks in order and reports one document-wide time.Skips and seeks map through that one timeline, even across a chunk boundary.
Details
Every boundary fires a segment change, and the page highlights along. The lock screen gets the title, the voice, and the true position.Speed and voice persist; the next page you open already knows them. And when the last sentence ends, the bar stays — quiet, finished, easy to reopen.
